Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Premiere

There is no doubt that Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy will keep everyone at the edge of their seats as the previous season did. In the last episode of Season 12 had quite a few cliffhangers. To recap:

Alex Karev proposed to his girlfriend Jo, who immediately turned him down with no explanation, despite the fact that she was in love with him. After, Alex angrily demanded an explanation, but she refused, so he stormed off. Her friend Andrew Deluca found Jo drunk later that night and she told him that the reason she wouldn’t marry Alex was because she was already married to an abusive man; she feared that if she divorced him, he would come after her. He helped her back to her apartment, and as he helped Jo into her bed, she pulled him and he accidentally fell on top of her; in that moment, Alex walked in. Misinterpreting the situation, Alex beat up Andrew, leaving fans to wonder what will happen next.

April Kepner, carrying the baby of her ex-husband Jackson Avery, went into labor while getting ready for her friend’s wedding. Her baby’s blood supply was cut off, so she needed to deliver right away. Due to the weather, the ambulance wouldn't have been able to get there in time. Luckily her friend Ben Warren was there with her. Although he was just a surgical resident, he delivered the baby via c-section with nothing except scissors, a knife, and towels, making fans wonder if April and the baby survived the risky procedure. Meanwhile, at Amelia Shepherd’s wedding, Meredith Grey and Nathan Riggs hit it off, but their budding relationship was impeded when Meredith found out that her sister, Maggie Pierce, had feelings for Nathan as well.

In the premiere, Alex brings Andrew to the ER, claiming that he found him like that, although his broken fist raised some suspicion. He asked his best friend Meredith not to tell anyone that he assaulted Andrew. Meredith, torn between staying loyal to her friend and following her obligation as a doctor to report him, decided to keep his secret. April safely made it to the hospital with her baby, whom she named Harriet Kepner-Avery, and the police began to investigate Andrew’s assault. Meanwhile, Meredith struggles with having to hold back two secrets from her sister: that she’s in love with Nathan, and that it was Alex who beat up Maggie’s ex-boyfriend. Jo, who was distraught after the incident, began to blame herself, thinking that if she had talked to Alex instead of getting drunk, none of this would have happened. She was so upset that she considered quitting the surgical program, but was stopped by the former chief of surgery, Richard Webber. Alex talks to Jo, telling her that she shouldn’t blame herself for the situation, and that Andrew was wrong to have tried to take advantage of her. Jo tried to explain that that wasn’t what happened, causing Alex to believe that it was Jo who seduced Andrew. Meredith continued to try to persuade Alex to tell the police that he assaulted Andrew, believing that it’s better that the truth come from him rather than someone else. By the end of the episode, Meredith decided to tell the Chief of Surgery, Miranda Bailey, that it was Alex. They rushed to go find him, but when they did, he had already turned himself in and was being arrested, causing fans to wonder what will happen to him during his trial in the next episode.
