The Kardashian Robbery: What We Know So Far

On the weekend of October 1st, Kim Kardashian West was robbed during her trip to her Paris residence. Among the stolen belongings were her 4.49 million dollar engagement ring, as well as other jewelry items valued at $5.6 million. Reportedly, she was gagged and bound, and held at gunpoint by the five attackers. They locked her in the bathroom before robbing her of her valuables and escaping. The French police listed an Eastern European gang as possible suspects of the robbery, speculating that they may have had ‘inside help’. The clues left behind led the police to determine that the crime was well thought out because there were many obstacles that would’ve been difficult to avoid without deliberate planning. When escaping, one robber seemed to crash a bicycle and another dropped a low-value jewel, in view of surrounding surveillance cameras. This is further proof that the robbers were attempting to masquerade as amateurs to hide the fact that they were well prepared for this. Police now believe that a photographer, or a man posing as a photographer, tipped off the robbers as to when Kardashian’s bodyguard left the building. The police were unable to identify the suspects through CCTV because the residence lacks security cameras due to the high profile guests that visit there.

There were 5 reported accomplices in the robbery, who confronted Kardashian before gagging and restraining her. Through security footage from a shoe store across the street from the Kardashian’s apartments, police discovered a limo with tinted windows that passed the building three times at 2:34am, 2:45am, and 2:54am. Due to Paris’ laws protecting privacy, police have had difficulty obtaining access to video footage, but they have previously stated that the apartment floor was entered by means of deception after the lobby concierge was held at gunpoint, gagged, and dragged into a stairwell. The means by which the robbers entered the apartment itself are unclear. There was no sign of forced entry or proof of key usage, yet Kardashian would not willingly open the door under the circumstances at hand. With an investigation still underway, the Paris Police force is working on leads to help them arrest the thieves and return the nearly ten million dollars worth of valuables.
