SNL On Trump

Whether or not you agree with the doings of the Trump Administration, there is no denying that Saturday Night Live is on a “huge” winning streak under the new presidency. Ratings are the highest they have been in 6 years as the show pokes fun at the new administration and weekly events.

Alec Baldwin first appeared on Saturday Night Live as Trump in early October, 2016, and the skits containing the character have only gotten better. While exaggerated for comedic effect, Baldwin’s Trump impersonation is frighteningly spot on. The pursed lips, wild hand gestures, orange tint, and pretentious voice have been perfected and left America in stitches after skits about speeches, press conferences, and court appearances. Baldwin can be seen above portraying the President, alongside “Steve Bannon”. While mocking the reports of President Trump’s less than pleasant phone call with Australia’s Prime Minister, “Trump” is advised by “Bannon” to call various countries and tell them who’s boss. The calls escalate very quickly and leave the viewers gasping for breath.

On February 4th, Melissa McCarthy appeared on the show portraying White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer. Spicer’s aggravations with the press, dodging of questions, and blatant lying were all mocked with precision. Using props and eventually the podium itself as a weapon, “Spicey” loses his cool on the press. McCarty returned the following week as Spicer with more material, and more spice. Both videos can be found on YouTube sporting millions of views.

Saturday Night Live has been the hub of political mockery and shenanigans for decades, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
