It
On September 8, 2017, the terrifying movie It was released into theaters all over the United States. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, the 2017 film was directed by Andy Muschietti and produced by Seth Grahame-Smith, Barbara Muschietti, Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and David Katzenberg. Many people enjoyed this new version of It rather than the original 1990’s film, as shown by the overall reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1990’s film received a 57% by the critics, while the 2017 film received an 85%.
Personally, I enjoyed this nail-biting horror film, as it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire two hours it showed. The storyline was both well-written and clever, keeping the audience wondering what would happen next. The screenplay writers did an exceptional job developing the storyline and each character to make the concept of the movie stand out as its own. “I enjoyed how the movie was not only scary, but how the kids in the film had a sarcastic and funny tone to their personalities, making the movie have a humorous side to it,” Ashley Clark, a student at Bacon Academy shared. The character Richie, who would always crack a joke at the oddest and worst times, was a well-developed character who enhanced the comedic side of the film. The concept of having the movie be both scary and funny made viewers find the movie more intriguing and entertaining.
Similar to the 1990’s version of It, the 2017 film has two chapters, or parts, meaning there will be a sequel coming out soon. The end of the first chapter left the viewers confused, as they did not get most their questions answered: what happened to Georgie? Is Pennywise the Clown gone for good, or will he come back in another 27 years? What will happen to the Losers’ Club? These questions are said to be answered in the sequel. Although there is not a set date as to when this will come out, some details about it have been revealed. Some of these details include how the second chapter will mainly focus on the Losers’ Club all grown up, some kids in the first chapter will not return in the second, and Pennywise will be played by the same actor, Bill Skarsgård.
This terrifying film is a perfect movie to watch if you are looking for a good scare and some nightmares. So grab some friends, popcorn, and find the closest movie theater near you because if you do… you’ll float too!
