Adultolescence Book Review
On September 19, 2017, Gabrielle Hanna released her first book, Adultolescence. Known colloquially as Gabbie, she started out on Vine and then moved to Youtube. She has over 5 million subscribers. Her latest project has been transforming her life and showing the internet her true self. She has come out about her psychological problems, made videos of her dance performances, released her first song, got a nose job, got five piercings in one sitting, and now has released Adultolescence, her New York Times Best Selling Book.
Adultolescence is a poetry book that covers topics that are sensitive, like how it feels to suffer with depression. As obvious from the title, this book’s overall theme is about the awkward time before you are really an adult, but not really a kid or teenager either. The book covers that in between stage that everyone goes through. The book’s dedication explains it all; “for all the kids who grew up too fast, and all the adults who refuse to grow up, and everyone who’s both.”
The book covers all the things that “adultolescents” have to deal with. Such as love, heartbreak, betrayal, scary stories, awkward conversations, and more. Gabbie Hanna has written a well spaced out amount of weird internet slang filled poems and serious long heartfelt poems. There are humor filled tidbits of advice to keep in mind through life. She also has conversations with her other Youtube friends that are featured in her videos. Lastly, the whole book is illustrated by her. Her illustrations are very intricate and have a unique cartoon-like style.
Gabbie Hanna got enough presales to win #1 best seller in American Poetry. This was her goal leading up to the publication of the book, and all of her fans are very happy she achieved it.
Another unique thing about Adultolescence is it came in 3 different colors when it came out originally. The book was offered in rose gold, white, and blue. Once the rose gold and white ones were sold out, the blue ones just replaced them and no other color will be sold again. This whole concept of color choices in a book is something unique I have never seen before. Gabrielle Hanna’s book, Adultolescence is a wonderfully written book, with very meaningful poems, which can really help a kid who is in a tough spot.
