Bacon Football 2017

The 2016 football season was a rough patch for the Bacon Academy football team. They won 2 games, one home and one away, but still managed to tie for first in the ECC’s. This year however, they made quite the comeback.

Winning the banner again, the team went 5-5 this season, beating teams such as Windham, Ledyard, Stonington, and Waterford, all on the opposing teams’ fields. That being said, no games were won on the home field all season. A big reason that the team was as successful as they were, according to Coach Mason, was the leadership that rose from the seniors on the team. It was something that began in the offseason last year and continued into the fall season. After they leave next year, it is up to the younger classes to step up into that role and carry on the legacy that they left. A jump from 2-8 to 5-5 is certainly a huge improvement, and their sights are still set ahead. While it is too early to have concrete plans for next season, off-season weight training has already begun to get them ready for the 2018 season and things are looking up for the team. Mason reports that he is proud of how far the team came over the past year, and he hopes that they are able to get even better for the next year. .
