January 20, 1961 - John F. Kennedy is inaugurated as the 35th president of the U.S.
JFK, when elected, was the youngest elected president in US history. This title had technically been held by Theodore Roosevelt, who’d taken office due to the assassination of William McKinley (Roosevelt was vice president). Due to his own assassination, JFK would also be the youngest to “leave” the White House. In general, presidents are 50-54 when they’re inaugurated, an age JFK beat by about 7 years. Currently, the oldest inaugurated president is Donald Trump, elected in 2016.
