February 11, 1971 - Cold War Participants Outlaw Nuclear Weapons on the Ocean Floor

Due to the enhancement of Oceanography in the 1960s, many began to fear that nations would start to use the ocean floor as testing sights / military bases for weapons of mass destruction. Similar to the treaties banning said activities in Antarctica and on the moon, the Seabed treaty further limited the areas nuclear weapons were permitted in by banning their usage twelve miles or more from any given coast.
