BA Students Participate in Poetry Out Loud

A recent tradition now, Bacon Academy has held a night dedicated to poetry and the student reciters. As part of a national contest, students choose two poems from the thousands on the Poetry Out Loud website to recite from memory with passion and energy.

Participating students this year included Bacon’s own Max Bolles, Jenaea Duddie, Audra Kingsley, Jenna Pan, Dylan Rosenthal, David Sardi, Jessica Savage, and Lily Wonderly. The competition was judged by numerous members of the BA English Department. The judges commended Jenaea Duddie for her outstanding performances reciting “Ode” by O’Shaughnessy, and “Passing” by Derricotte, and concluded her as the winner of the competition. Jenna Pan was named as the runner-up for her powerful recitations of “Memory as a Hearing Aid” by Hoagland, and “On the Death of Anne Bronte” by Bronte. These two students attended the Connecticut Poetry Out Loud workshop at the University of Hartford, and Jenaea Duddie will be competing in the Connecticut State Finals on March 3rd! Best of luck Jenaea!

Poetry Out Loud is always a wonderful experience for participating students and audience members. If you have never attended such an event, I highly recommend you do so!
