New Teachers!
Ms. Federowicz, one of the recent hires to Bacon Academy, is a French teacher who is passionate about her job. In her free time, she enjoys watching TV shows such as Doctor Who and various anime programs. She also enjoys playing Nintendo video games and reading books, particularly science fiction.
She lived in Paris for 5 months and highly encourages others to immerse themselves in another culture while learning the language. When asked to give advice for students who are struggling and students in general she responded with, “Don’t give up and don’t be afraid to ask for help. I know from my personal experience, when I was in middle school, I had a math question and, well, my teacher wasn’t around so I didn’t know what to do. My mom encouraged me by saying ‘well there are other math teachers in the school, go ask them for help.’ So I did, and I got the help that I needed. So it was one of those things, like, if you need help, ask. ...I always feel bad if people are afraid to go to a teacher for help.”
Overall, Ms Federowicz is a great instructor, and one all French students are able to go to. Following her advice, if you need any French help then Ms. Federowicz is a fantastic option, and one that all students should see.
Mr. Byrne is a new English teacher here at Bacon due to his obvious love of English and the lack of people to fill English positions. Otherwise, he claimed he would probably have become a history teacher. Before arriving here, Mr. Byrne had worked at three schools, all for only two years, but he hopes to work here for longer. Outside of school, he loves to cook, write, and travel with his wife and daughter. The one message he wishes his students to take with them is that they are more than just a grade in his class.
Yet another new Bacon staff member is Mrs. Bushey. She is passionate about math and wants to show that learning it can be fun. She enjoys spending time with her family as well as going to the beach, and evidently, the color pink. Her classroom is almost completely pink! A piece of advice she would like to pass on to her students is to believe in yourself. “So many times I grade a test where a student erased all of their work because they thought it was wrong but it was actually the correct answer. If they would believe in themselves, they would trust they had the right
answer."
Another new member of the Bacon Bobcat Family is Señora Haddad. Clearly, she is a part of the Spanish department, one of which she picked since it is her native language. In her free time, she chooses to cook, to shop, to craft, to bake, to sing, and to dance. She wants all her students to know that, “Good things come to those who work hard and make every effort to do what is just right.” And in closing, for her, a smile goes a long way.
Señora Burroughs- a new member of the Bacon’s Spanish team- joined this year since she has loved English throughout all her life. Personally, she believes that mastering an entire new language is powerful. She says, “It opens up so many new doors for you, and I wanted to be able to share that with my students.” In her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, rock climbing, spending time with her loved ones, as well as cooking and baking. The message she wishes her students would take with them is: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes!
