You’ve probably heard about the California Camp Fires in the recent news, especially in Paradise, California. The high school that resided in Paradise was, like Bacon, represented by the Bobcat mascot. As reported by Vox.com, 9,700 homes were destroyed while 11,862 structures were completely wrecked, but the high school was left standing. Over Thanksgiving, many families were displaced with no place to call home. Thus, an idea was sparked within Community Activism.
Due to this destruction, Bacon Academy (specifically, the aforementioned Community Activism class) has taken initiative in order to benefit a greater cause: lending a helping hand to their fellow Bobcats in a time of great need. A few events took place in the past two months to raise money for Paradise High: a tag sale, the sale of ribbon and buttons, and private donations from students and staff. In a show of unity, students and staff alike donated their personal items to be auctioned off at the sale, while all of the profits were forwarded to Paradise. All of the fundraisers totaled to $1300 for the victims of the California Camp Fire in a small act of charity that will hopefully aid in their long road to recovery.
If you’d like to help, there are still active campaigns on the GoFundMe website for victims of these wildfires.
