Uber has now backtracked on their CEO’s (Dara Khosrowshahi’s) previous statement of excusing the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder as a “mistake.” His initial statement was made on the “Axios” broadcast by HBO in which, when referring to Saudi Arabia, relates the aforementioned “mistake” to the U.S.’s “mistake” of self-driving. Since the U.S. has ceased the endeavour of self-driving, he believes that they have been forgiven and Saudi Arabia also has the potential to be able to atone for what they have done. Khosrowshahi’s statements are thought to be influenced by the fact that Saudi Arabia is Uber’s fifth largest shareholder. Now, after Khosrowshahi, when asked by CNBC to comment on the matter, has rescinded his statements and explicitly states “I said something in the moment that I do not believe. When it comes to Jamal Khashoggi, his murder was reprehensible and should not be forgotten or excused.”
