Australian Wildfires

AUSTRALIA — If you pay attention to the news, you’re probably aware that Australia has been suffering from giant wildfires as of late. They have been raging since November, with hundreds of thousands of people under orders to evacuate. Millions of animals are believed to have died along with 25 people, all the while thousands more have been injured. The fires have covered roughly 15 million acres of land, devastating everything in its path. Many viral videos have surfaced showing rescue efforts by firemen and average citizens, as well as the speed at which the fires spread (which you can view below). The factors that are currently believed to have contributed to the fires are a 3-year drought preceding the fires, as well as arson and climate change.

Luckily, many celebrities have pitched in to help fight the fires indirectly. Chris Hemsworth, who grew up in Melbourne, donated $1,000,000 of his own money to help fund the firefighters who are working hard on a daily basis. Other celebrities that have donated or contributed in some way include: Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, and Selena Gomez.
